Admissions for the year 2026-27 batch will start from 2nd January 2026! 
 

This year program is offered in Two formats:

1) CLASSROOM FORMAT: Participants attend classroom sessions in Pune (venue will be commmunicted before start of the program), and get 4 camps. 

2) ONLINE SELF-PACED FORMAT: Participants get recordings every Saturday for viewing through the following 2 weeks, at their own pace. Live online discussions with faculty will be scheduled every month in a hangout format. REFRESHERS can also sign up for this program. 

Before you start filling the admission form please read below complete program details :

1. Classroom Batch: Total Fee is INR 38,000/- & a total of 60 are seats available. Fees can be paid in two installments. First installment of INR 18,000/-, make the payment, take a screenshot and upload the payment screenshot in the form. Second installment of INR 20,000/- to be paid before 31st May 2026. All expenses related to the camps are in addition to the fees stated above and shall be communicated in good time before the camp.​

2. Online Self-Paced & Refresher Batch: Total Fee is INR 18,000/-. A total of 200 seats are available. Make full payment of Rs. 18,000/-,take a screenshot and upload the payment screenshot in the form.

Program Details

​

This is a unique program being conducted by Ecological Society since 1997. The program has earned a reputation as leading a education in ecological approach to sustainability and nature conservation. 

​​

The program imparts theoretical concepts and helps participants gain field experience through camps and field work. The unique holistic ecological approach helps understand the connections between human, nature, economy, livelihoods and conservation. 

​

Lectures are conducted by the core faculty as also by researchers, scientists, practitioners and academicians who are experts in their subjects. Visiting faculty are national and international experts in their own fields. The library offers a unique collection of books, journals and periodicals.

The program is divided into three modules

Module 1 This module focuses on setting the Historical Perspective: Evolution of the universe, earth, life, man, and the changing man-nature relationship. Agriculture, trade and commerce. It also delves on how civilization developed on pre history and history and explores energy, resources and economy nexus.

Module 2 This module focuses on principles of ecology, role of biodiversity in ecosystems integrity, study of major ecosystems: mountains, tropical forests, grasslands, marine, riverine, and wetland. Role of agriculture and agroecology, principles of restoration: natural resource management, theory and practice, ecological approach to landscape planning.

Module 3  This module focuses on understanding sustainable development, ecological economics, energy and sustainable development, current challenges, holistic approach and lifestyle changes, rural economy and urban ecology, development models

Field visits during the Program (For CLASSROOM) :Field Visits are conducted in two batches, first 35 participants as per the admission date to the program will attend field visits in first batch. Remaining 25 participants will attend field visits in second batch. Schedule for both the field visits to be shared before start of the program. Following field visits are planned.

  • Grassland Ecosystem – 1 day camp

  • Mountain Ecosystem Himalaya – 7 day camp

  • Coastal Ecosystem  – 3 day camp

  • Forest Ecosystem - 2 day camp

Common Notes for CLASSROOM and ONLINE Students

Eligibility: Graduate in any faculty

Course Duration: 10 months (Starts first Saturday of June and ends by February or March 15 of the subsequent year)

Course Schedule:  Every Saturday from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Additional field visits for classroom batch on some Sundays between 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Fees:

  • CLASSROOM: Rs. 38,000/- (60 seats)

  • ONLINE Self-paced & REFRESHER: Rs. 18,000/- (200 seats). Refresher  only for alumni in ONLINE self paced format

Program FAQs 

​

1. For ONLINE self paced students, participants get recording every saturday for viewing through the next 2 week, at their own pace. Live online discussions with faculty will be scheduled once every month. 

2. CLASSROOM batch field visits in two batches 

(i) Based on the availability of accommodation and need for extensive engagement, it is difficult to organise all the field visits for all the participants in single batch. Idea of field visits is a rigorous engagement in the study of the ecosystems. 
(ii) We plan to organise all the field visits in two batch. First 35 participants as per the admission date to the program will attend all the field visits in the first batch. Remaining 25 participants will attend all the field visits in the second batch.

(iii) Participants should expect suitable faculty members and field experts to be available for their camps based on their schedules and availability. 

(iv) Any camps for online self-paced batch are offered strictly based on the availablity of field experts and interest amongst the participants.

4. Admissions are on first come first admitted basis, admission for classrom batch will be confirmed ONLY after receipt of Rs. 18,000/- as a first installment towards fees & for online self paced & refresher batch after receipt of Rs 18, 000/- (full payment). Submitting only admission form does not guarantee admission. Balance fees for classroom batch must be paid before 31st May 2026.

5. There are NO exams, but there will be group assignments.  For self paced batch, attendance during monthly interaction with faculties and submission of assigment before completion of the program will be considered for performance evaluation. 

6. This Program is designed to give you a holistic perspective and includes basic topics from all subjects. Participants are expected to supplement the class sessions with self-learning and reading.

7. ONLINE self paced participants: We trust that only the admitted student will watch the sessions, and these sessions will not be shared with family member or friend.

8. For online self-pced batch, sharing of recording of lectures can be extended upon request via mail. It will not be considered for all the lectures (on special request it will be considered on case basis)

9. CLASSROOM Participants: Missed camps can be attended next year as per the availability

10. MISSED CLASSROOM SESSIONS: Video recording link for missed classroom lectures can be shared upon request via mail for classroom batch. 

​

11. CAMPS are usually a rigorous engagement in the study of the ecosystems, natural resources and the socio-economic settings of the area. Considering the time available with everyone, the days are intense, so expect the days full of activities. Family members or friends will not be allowed to participate in camps / visits.

​

12. Participants attending Himalaya camp will participate in a group assignment. They will prepare and present their observations and findings in groups as a part of this course requirement.

​

13. Alumnus of the Ecological Society course (Regular or Correspondence) can take admission only in the REFRESHER batch which is only available in a online self-paced mode.

​​

14. CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION - Participants meeting the criteria of 70% attendance (ONLINE and CLASS) and at least 3 camps for CLASSROOM batch, will be awarded a CERTIFICATE of COMPLETION.
